Description: This is a 2-day class specifically covering the MC68040 (EC/LC versions) and MC68060 (EC/LC versions) hardware and software architecture. It is an excellent follow-up class to the MC68K Family Programming class (usually offered the same week).

The first one and a half days is used to cover the MC68040 and the common issues of the MC68060. The last half day is used to point out MC68060 differences and the new features.

Objectives:
  • Hardware interface - bus arbitration, memory, DMA
  • Floating point unit
  • Exception processing
  • Caches and cache coherency
  • Memory management unit
Prerequisites: Complete familiarity with the software aspects of the MC68K family is required. Students who also need additional MC68K software and programming background may attend the MC68K Family Programming seminar offered in the same week.
