Description: This is a 4-day course covering the major hardware and software features of the MC68HC12 micro-controller and enables the system designer or software engineer to understand the MC68HC12 MCU and its applications. This class consists of lecture, lab, and exercises.

Course topics include: MCU Overview, Programming Model, Register Set, Addressing Modes, Instruction Set, Resets & Interrupts, Bus Signals, Memory Configurations, Operational Modes, SIM Module, Device Peripherals, and Debug Module. Assembly language programs amplify the subject material throughout the course. An effort is also made to familiarize the student with relevant hardware integration issues. During the lab sessions, the student gains experience with the development process writing assembly-level routines to configure and control the MCU peripherals. Each derived solution is downloaded, executed and debugged to ensure that the program's operation is consistent with the predefined specifications.

Objectives:
  • Write MC68HC12 assembly language programs
  • Understand and initialize Integration Module
  • Understand bus signals and configure the Memory
  • Use the on-chip timer to perform pulse-width modulation, frequency measurement, pulse generation and event counting
  • Understand and use the on-chip serial communication ports
  • Use the on-chip A/D converter
Prerequisites: 8 or 16-bit microcontroller knowledge and design experience will be helpful.
